Rollin’, Rollin’, Rollin’, Keep Them Faxes Rollin’

In the spirit of last week’s topic, there was a job posting from a German health office for a courier with a scooter to deliver COVID-19 documents received by fax to another part of the building for further processing. But rejoice! More and more health offices are switching right now from hand-written lists to an app out of hell where you have to enter the name of an infected person at sixteen (16) different locations.

There are more news from Germany, notably on the political front, but they are just too depressing. The one exception was the ruling of the Constitutional Court that Germany’s window-dressing emission targets are unconstitutional—but of course, the lawmakers’ reactions were every bit as pathetic and crooked as you’d expect.

Besides being busy on Twitter, I wrote the first part of a blog post, “Consolidating Memories in the Photographic Field,” on how personal photography, memory, and notions of self relate to each other, and how that might be put to use for player memory, player/player character bonding, and game-based learning. Also, I uploaded a new album on Flickr: Düsseldorf III: Squaries (20 images, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

Then, squirrels! Who doesn’t love squirrels! Okay, maybe those of you who have a bird feeder to defend, but never mind. Here’s a wonderful movie by wildlife photographer Dani Connor Wild about four baby red squirrels that needed help, set against the backdrop of amazing wildlife and nature photography in Northern Sweden.

Finally, my game recommendation this week is The Librarian by Octavi Navarro. It’s the cutest point-&-click adventure about strange things you have to solve in your supernatural small town’s library in the middle of the night. Puzzles are light (even I managed to solve them without hick-ups; just look for pop-up texts on mouse-over and be creative), at a playing time of about 20 minutes. You can get it for free, but if you spring the developer a few bucks ($3.99), which you should, you’ll get the special edition with visual improvements, PDF art book, soundtrack, and localizations.

Meanwhile, move ’em on, head ’em up, & keep it rollin’!
