Berlin Is Mostly Lakes

Since Friday, my protection against COVID-19 is as effective as it can be at this point in time. Also, I’m in Berlin.

It’s my first trip in two years. I’m visiting my father, who’s back in Germany after about a lifetime, and we do a lot of “normal” things together. Like, eating at restaurants, visiting museums, swimming and sunbathing along Berlin’s gazillion lakes (really!), going on a boat trip, regular stuff. Still, it all feels unreal.

Of course, we have to wear masks, but that wasn’t new to me. I did that often enough before the pandemic. All in all, in some ways, everything seems undeservedly normal.

It won’t stay that way, I presume, with the fourth wave in the making, summer break ending, and the usual mixture of political incompetents in the state and federal parliaments and the esofash crowds in the streets. But I’m trying to enjoy this almost-normal life as long as it lasts.

That’s it for today. See y’all next week,
J.
