April this year, I wrote the first part of a blog post on “Consolidating Memories in the Photographic Field” at my secret level just draft about memory, biography, and documentation in the context of in-game photography and photography in general. I haven’t gotten around to writing that damn second part yet, but lately I’ve been occupied with thinking about photography a lot. There’s a certain visual and compositional aesthetic I’m fascinated with that involves cameras and lenses from bygone eras, particularly the 1970s, and I’ve been seriously contemplating to acquire a Contax 139 Quartz (I had a vintage Yashica TL-Electro when I was 16, so that would count as an upgrade) with a decent Zeiss C/Y manual-focus lense. Should I do it? I’m not sure. Yesterday, I was all for it; today, I’m gravitating toward dropping the whole project. So stay tuned!
On Flickr, I uploaded another tourist-ish album last week, Tōkyō II: Omotesandō (10 images, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), and there are, as always, my more emphatically edited cross posts from Glass.
Otherwise, my entire productive output last week went into preparing my 2020 tax return documents for my tax advisor—as my income is assessed along three separate categories (academic position, freelance creative/consultant, writer), that’s always a lot of fun which I greatly enjoy. Oh wait, no—it isn’t and I don’t! I probably mixed that up with going to the dentist.
In gaming news, you can play the original Doom on Twitter now! You tweet what you want to do for the next 10 seconds in a certain syntax, and the @Tweet2Doom bot then tweets the clip of your actions back. I love this stuff.
