Analogue journalling

After years of dabbling, this year I have started journalling. Not digitally - this is full on analogue with pen and paper.

I use a simple weekly spread for tasks and plans for the week, with a simple tracker for a few personal goals (sleep, exercise etc). I am also keeping an analogue log of things like the books I have read, a record of runs, board game achievements and what I have planted in the garden. All things I would have previously logged on some online service - having it on paper that you can flick through keeps it present rather than lost in a data mine.

The thing that surprised me the most is the joy I am getting from drawing. I am no artist, but I am getting so much pleasure from spending the time trying to create something. My doodles are fairly terrible copies of illustrations I find on the web but who cares - no one is going to see them except me (and my very polite supportive family).

I am now also using a larger notebook for work for daily task lists, sketching ideas, writing meeting notes and jotting down things I need to remember. The whole experience is more satisfying by far compared to any digital alternative.

For those interested (and stationary geeks), I currently have a Serengeti Dingbats Notebook - so much better than the moleskins I have tried to use in the past. I am also a big fan of their brush pens - I just wish I could buy more colours as they as so much better than anything else I have tried.
