My self-made tool to stay on track

Merry Christmas Eve to those that celebrate!

2021 was a big year. For me, it meant having to get better with time management to ensure that the many things requiring my attention all got done ad prioritized.

Different methods work for different people, and I tried a couple of them this year. Where I've found the most success, though, is with Pomodoro Timers. The idea for those unfamiliar is simple: For every 25 minutes of work you do, you take 5 minutes to reset/take a break. Every 4 cycles, you take a longer 20-30 minute break. This method helps you stay productive without burning yourself out.

My issue is that the apps that existed are clunky, bloated, or just plain ugly - in my opinion. The priorities I have for something to keep me going are two things: Automatic cycle management that doesn't require my constant involvement (no clicking "take break", "reset", etc.), and an easy way to celebrate and reflect on progress.

So, I built it! Meet "Tomato Task"! 🍅

Tomato Task makes it dead simple to keep you on track. Type in a few of your top priorities and hit enter! Bam, you have a Pomodoro timer going with your todos front and center.

As you work through your session, just click to mark things off. When your cycle is done, you'll have the opportunity to jot down anything new to work on in your next session.

That's it! No ads. No accounts. No complexities - just you and your work. I'm actually hosting this on a Firebase free account right now with a $14/yr domain - so nothing shady.

You might notice a lack of Privacy Policy or anything - that's because nothing ever leaves your browser. We store your preferences locally and all your tasks are associated with the tab. Nothing is ever uploaded, no analytics or data collection - that's it.

I hope you find it as helpful as I do. I've been using it leading up to the holidays locally, but I figure why not upload for all to benefit from?

Please shoot me an email if you have some feedback or find it useful! I'd love to hear what you think.

Merry Christmas!
