Want to be happy? Do this.

Life sucks.

It can be challenging to put a smile on at times. Maybe today it slips on quickly, but other days, it's hard to find it.

One simple thing you can do to instill more happiness (and hopefully, a smile follows) is to write down daily what you're grateful for.

I do this first thing in the morning and right before bed.

You may think this whole gratitude thing is all hype. It's not.

Why don't you try it for the next month? Put it to the test.

Write down three things you're grateful for every morning, evening, or night.

The three I wrote last night were:
  1. Having autonomy with my job to spend time with and help drive my nephew to school every other Wednesday morning
  2. Katie making a damn good dinner
  3. My brother caring for me by buying me a Star Wars Lego

The goal is to avoid generalities like these:
  • Health
  • Sleep
  • Being alive

I'm not saying avoid writing basic things down.

Sometimes I am incredibly grateful I have coffee every morning.
Or I'm grateful for my consistent wellbeing.
Or being able to go for a walk daily.

It doesn't need to be complex; it simply needs to remind you how blessed you are.

It needs to help you refocus your perspective to realize the immense blessings around you. This helps move you from sad and moping to hopeful and thankful.

Try being sad after realizing how blessed you are. I have; it doesn't work well.

I'll check back in a month and see how it's going for you 😉

What's your opinion on gratitude (writing down what you're grateful for)?

Do you think it works?
