Parrots and Putins

If some of your most stridently held beliefs were suddenly publicly supported by, say, Stalin or Charlie Manson, one would think it should give you pause. Like it should give pause to that reprehensible billionaire TERF Queen, who just got a publicity boost from Vladimir Putin. Or all those white Christian evangelical Republicans, whose crusade against any and every academic subject that might make people think also enjoys Putin’s staunchest support, whose administration just ordered a teaching ban on sociology, cultural studies, and political science in all pedagogical universities in Russia. Then again, if such endorsements indeed could give you pause, you might not have held and advocated such hateful attitudes and abhorrent activities in the first place.

My personal week was busy, but not as apocalyptically busy as the week before. So I could lean back, almost leisurely, and write and publish two blog posts, one on “Shocksuits” at my Voidpunk blog and another one on “Consolidating Memories in the Photographic Field (Part II)” at my secret level just drafts. I also uploaded a new album to Flickr, Xi’an VI: Terracotta Army Museum (15 images), and published two photos on Glass, one from Shibuya Nonbei Yokochō, Tōkyō, and one from Parkview Square’s garden wall in Singapore. Plus, as usual, several posts with commentaries at my Instagram accounts betweendrafts and voidpunkverse.

Then, some recommendations. Overcast, my favorite iOS podcast app, just got a huge update and design refresh. If you haven’t tried it out yet, now would be a good time! Next, there’s a new episode up, “The National Museum of Flight,” from Eleanor Morton’s side-splitting Scottish Tour Guide Doesn't Give a Fuck series. (The whole series would be my recommendation.) Also, I don’t know about you, but I want to book a flight right away to have a cocktail at this Muscle Girl Bar in Tōkyō! (Yes, that’s definitely a recommendation.)

Finally, (more) fun stuff. You don’t want to miss out on these epic cat photo & cat clip combination (sound on!), and this cute little video about cat family life (again, sound on). And I hope things last week worked out better for you than for this unlucky parrot.
