🪞The Lookback 4/23 - 4/29

That was a crazy week.

Sunday feels like yesterday with the software launching, my mom's birthday, and my shin exploding. How about you?

How was your week?

What did I do this week?

  • I failed to release episode 5 of my podcast (🤦🏼‍♂️)
  • We launched MyTalentPlanner software and V2 of the website (See V2 of the website: https://www.mytalentplanner.com)
  • I ran 5 times for a total of 19.5 miles
  • I had a fantastic team building event with the MyTalentPlanner team, where we failed to escape from an Escape Room and had dinner next to the Packer's stadium
  • I smashed my shin against a park bench while playing with my nephew and ripped it open (it wasn't good)

What did I learn this week?

1. Build it, and no one comes.
Life is busy.

When we launch something into the world (content or product), we forget that people have lives. They have dinner plans or are overly busy with work. Sure, we could have done more marketing pre-launch, but sometimes it simply takes patience and persistence.

It's not about getting attention; it's about holding it long enough.

2. I still suck at conflict management.
One thing I've struggled with since a kid is dealing with conflict.

I would avoid it at all costs, which resulted in little conflict management skills (just ask my wife and boss). I also have become quite a contrarian in my thinking, which usually results in conflict. Being unable to navigate conflict gracefully has held me back and has led to much suffering in my life.

My goal for the next month and probably the entire year is to get better with conflict while remaining a contrarian.

3. Life is all about getting back up.
We rarely control when life knocks us down.

But we (almost) always control whether we stay down or get up. I experienced that this week when I had to miss a run due to my mutated leg. I was devastated and thought about throwing the rest of the week out the window.

I reminded myself of a close friend's words: "Don't let one day of skipping your habit turn into two." I didn't.

The one question on my mind

How can I delay gratification so that I will have a more significant payoff in the future?

(A prerequisite question to answer is: What do I want in life (i.e., payoffs)?)

Thanks for reading this week's lookback.

Now it's your turn to share:
  • What did you accomplish this week?
  • What did you learn this week?
  • What did you read, listen to, or watch that educated, entertained, or inspired you?
  • What question is on your mind?

Have a peaceful weekend!
