Last year around late summer/early fall, two pigeon babies hatched, grew up, learned to fly, and left their nest right outside the bedroom window. Week before last, the pigeon parents built another nest at the exact same spot and commenced breeding soon after. Today, alas, the nest was empty. I checked down below; nothing had fallen out of it, no eggshells, nothing. Not sure what happened. The nest looked pretty crappy this time, even compared to last year’s nest which wasn’t a marvel in avialian architecture to begin with. On the one hand, it’s sad that they’re gone; on the other, there’s always a lot of anxiety involved that bad things might happen. (Which they did, a few years ago.) Well.
Otherwise, things have pretty much gone back to normal around here, and I even managed to slack off a bit. For my Voidpunk blog, I wrote a post on Conan the Freebooter, the third volume of the Lancer edition, and for my secret level just drafts a linked-list item on Embracer’s plans to establish a video game library. Then there’s a new album on Flickr with 10 images of Shibuya at night and a re-edit from an urban landscape shot I took in Xi’an, China. Plus, as usual, several posts at my Instagram accounts betweendrafts and voidpunkverse.
Now, a game recommendation: The Unfinished Swan. For many years only available for the PlayStation, it’s been released for the PC in 2020, and you can grab it right now at the Epic store at a 70% discount. I haven’t finished it yet, but it’s very enjoyable and clever and quirky, and also very accessible—if you’re not an experienced gamer, don’t worry. You’ll be fine! Still, I’m a little sad—I wrote about the first tech demo when it came out in 2008, and if you watch the video from the demo, you’ll see why. It promised a very different mood, between spectral and horror, which was and is right up my alley. Still, even if the finished game is different, it’s highly enjoyable, and perhaps you’ll enjoy it that way even more.
Not many funny and cheerful things happened in the world last week to fill the Sunday funnies. But, luckily, we still have cats.
