Levelling up with altMBA

Hey world!

I just built my first web app to say just that.

It also says "Goodbye, world!" which is a little more ominous...😅

So why the hell am I building web apps and learning to code?

I just finished the first week of something called altMBA. It's a program for individuals who want to 'level-up' and become the leaders they've always wanted to be.

Put together by Seth Godin, it's an amazing idea, bringing people together from around the world into working groups to discuss prompts and produce work together - mostly written.

The hours are a bit crazy, 20 per week plus reading time, but I don't think it could be any other way.

I haven't written to the world for ages but I'm feeling psyched.

Something has been missing in my life for a while now. Something I had back home in Scotland.

I was part of a mindfulness meditation group in Glasgow and used to show up to sessions every week.

The group was varied and eclectic, and my business style life was often a bit out of sync with other group members, but it was always interesting and everyone was always curious about each other.

The altMBA provides the same kind of space, with the added benefit that everyone is here to create things, build businesses, and get better at what they do.

Being with my first learning group was like a therapy session mixed with a great chat with friends, mixed with an idea incubation chamber and launchpad.

That's why I'm learning how to code, or at least learning enough to be dangerous, so I can bring new ideas to the world more easily.

That's not to say I'm going to quit my job at the awesome start-up I'm working with. No way. FinFlx is going places and I'm on-board.

It just means that I'll learn the skills I need to build things that I want to build. It'll help everyone.

I really can't describe how important the altMBA feels.

And I realise again how important it is to have people in your life who feel the same way. Who want the same thing.

Let's see how the rest of the month progresses, but this feels like a big turning point in my life again.

You can't unsee this stuff. You can't unfeel it's impact on you.

I'll stop gushing now.

Thanks for reading X
