About sleep tracking

Devices like the Apple Watch or the Oura Ring are growing in popularity. Both of them can be used to track your sleep.

I have an Apple Watch and tracked my sleep lots of times. I mean, sleep is super important and you gotta make sure to optimise it, right?

Sleep data can be helpful, if you do one thing: Check this data only once or twice a week. And don't check it in the morning right after you wake up.

If it shows that you only got 5 hours of sleep, you tend to feel bad right away. And you carry that information with you for the rest of the day. My mind often came up with little excuses on why I can't perform well on a task and blamed it on my 5 hours.

Imagine that you didn't check your sleep data that day. Once a while, sleeping only 5 hours is ok. You'll be fine.

I recommend using these tools for a bigger picture analysis, not for day-to-day.

Don't let devices tell you how to feel.
