Portico Darwin: Our Butterfield Moment

TODAY'S RAMBLINGS

Do any of you old cranks out there remember the name Alexander Butterfield?  He was Cassidy Hutchinson before there was a Cassidy Hutchinson.  On July 13, 1973, he revealed to a congressional committee the existence of the taping system in then-President Richard Nixon's criminal lair, A.K.A. the Oval Office.

That was the beginning of the end and it all unraveled from there for Tricky Dick.  Perhaps yesterday's Congressional testimony by the authentically MAGA Cassidy Hutchinson is our Butterfield moment, and it signifies the beginning of Trump's long-overdue downfall and ideally, abject humiliation.  I am now hopeful that June 28, 2022 will be our July 13, 1973.

I have little to add to Ms. Hutchinson's testimony, apart from my own big takeaway.  Apologies in advance for the shouting.

The President of the United States was directly informed, before taking the stage on January 6, 2021, that many, many of the people gathering were armed.  Armed with rifles, pistols, knives, spears and more.  Yet, in order for the crowd for his speech to appear larger on TV, Trump demanded the metal detectors be removed so more could attend, with the words:

"They’re not here to hurt me.  Take the fucking mags (metal detectors) away.  Let my people in.  They can march to the Capitol from here."

Trump explicitly knew there was a potential for violence at the Capitol, during the peaceful transfer of power, a tradition unbroken over centuries in this country.  AND HE WAS MORE THAN FINE WITH IT.  IN FACT, HE HAD A FIT WHEN HE COULDN'T JOIN THE RIOT.  AND HE REFUSED TO DIFUSE THE DEADLY SITUATION FOR HOURS WHEN DIRECTLY INFORMED OF THE INSURECTION.

This was the President of the United States, the leader of our country and the free world, and he staged a coup.  We know this definitively now, thanks to Ms. Hutchinson's testimony (and that of many others).

Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, Kevin McCarthy, Josh Hawley, Marco Rubio, Jim Jordan, ad nauseum:  what say you?  I guess it wasn't the Antifa and BLM false-flag action you told us it was at the time?

A reminder that this was "Senator" Josh Hawley on the morning of January 6, 2021, greeting Trump's mob.

I will say again that America would begin to heal immediately if Republican leaders would acknowledge the obvious and ask for the full prosecution of all involved.  As Ms. Hutchinson said yesterday, Trump's coup plot was un-American and unpatriotic.   This tweet really says/asks it all.
