Give your people responsibilities, not tasks

Ticking off tasks all day long does not make for happy people or exceptional results.

Even if most roles can be reduced to tick boxes it doesn’t mean they should. Instead, give people responsibilities, then guide and train them in fulfilling their responsibilities.

It’s someone being in charge of operational excellence or client satisfaction or a motivated team rather than them having rows of tasks to complete.

When we’re following instructions or doing mundane tasks, we don’t need to be creative or resourceful so we shut off the part of our brain that does these things.

When we have more broad objectives our brain is whirring away thinking of how we can make them happen which leads to new, inventive things that no one has thought of before.

Responsibilities over tasks. Possibility, not monotony.
