We didn’t succeed because of schooling

You and I, we didn’t succeed because of schooling. We succeeded in spite of schooling.

School didn’t teach us how to question, how to be resourceful, how to think for ourselves. We learned that somewhere else.

School actually taught us conformity. It taught us comparison. It taught us how to stand in line and follow a syllabus to a mark scheme and do the bare minimum to get the right grade.

Try asking the most successful person you know how they got where they are and I guarantee you they will not say schooling. Their actual education will have come from a role model or an experience or a job they had.

There will have been something that opened their eyes to what was possible but it almost definitely will not have been in a classroom.

What opened your eyes?
