Not Running Smoothly

Last Friday, I gave my first full on-site lecture since the beginning of the pandemic. I have to say, it was fantastic. Not only was it less stressful on my side and more lively on the students’ side than any online or hybrid lecture I’d given over the past three years; these first-term students also conveyed a wide range of backgrounds and interests that are both appealing and promising. Less appealing was the news on Thursday that I have a torn meniscus and need knee surgery in November. (And for my lecture the day after that, I have to go online again.) How long until I can get back to running? I don’t know. Maybe I should take on scuba diving instead.

I published two blog posts last week, one at my Voidpunk blog about NGC 3324’s Cosmic Cliffs of Madness and one at my primary blog between drafts about Unboxing the #Playdate. There’s a new album on Flickr with 40 images from the War Memorial of Korea in Seoul, South Korea, and two re-edits on Glass: a MIM-104 Patriot SAM Launching Station at Osan Air Base in Songtan, South Korea, and a Dongzhimen highrise facade in Beijing, China. Plus, one entry each at my Instagram accounts betweendrafts and voidpunkverse.

No Sunday funnies today—nothing showed up in my feeds last week that was both new and worthwhile. But if you want to know what’s going on in the UK, I recommend following Russ Jones on Twitter for his regular #TheWeekInTory threads, which are hilarious, completely bizarre, and terrifyingly accurate. Here’s a sample you can enjoy even if you have no idea about UK politics—winding up, after 76 list items, with “77. It’s only Monday.”
