. . . and they are ugly.

Happy Friday, and my apologies in advance for sharing this rather sobering information ahead of your weekend.

But Gallup - the polling company - has been doing a big annual survey for 20 years now of how Americans feel on a variety of topics, and the results merit your attention.

If only because of how sad it all is.

The complete article is here, including full-sized versions of the graphics above.

Interestingly, the views of many Republicans have strayed farther from the American mainstream over 20 years.  On things like guns, abortion rights, same-sex marriage, and climate change.

Why is that?  It begs the question of whether their news sources affirm or inform them?  Gosh, am I being elite?

On Monday, I'll summarize the charts above by grouping the subjects and - shocker - giving my take on each.

And no, all of this does not signal a return to my hair-on-fire diatribes against Trump and his enablers.  In fact, it's the opposite, and there's even a contest on Monday intended to show our unity as a country.

Until then, have a great weekend.

Oh, man up, beeyatch.

Kidding.  In fact, I cried myself.

Apparently not brought to tears by the Carly Simon song I played on Wednesday was Max "Madras" Ryder.

And I thought for sure that today's song choice would have been this one?  I’ll keep trying . . .

Okie From Muskogee - Merle Haggard

Hysterical.  No, really - I see what you did there.  But perhaps the plaid-clothed one should leave the music to the professionals?

Thank you to any one that is reading this newsletter.

This is for Max, and all of the other lovers of Democrats and hippies out there.

Here is Simon and Garfunkel with their Textbook Bridge Over Troubled Water.  If only.
