Portico Darwin: What if Our Cities had European Transit?

TODAY'S RAMBLINGS

<1 Minute Read

Here's a fun one for a holiday weekend.  Well, fun if you're a transportation geek like me, because today I continue my whining about the dearth of passenger trains in the United States.  But to keep the boredom down, I'm expressing my frustration visually.

What follows are maps, at the same scale, for cities with similar populations but with the passenger rail network of one superimposed on the other.  Suffice to say there's a reason your commute sucks.

And no - I'm no cartologist.  I grabbed these from the aptly named "Fuck Cars" sub-Reddit.

I have used this before, but it's too appropriate to leave out - and remember, it's true.

Have a great holiday weekend.

FROM THE UNWASHED MASSES

What says Thanksgiving like a can of sardines???  Not much!

No fake names here and it's your chance to do something productive on Black Friday:  buy my cousin Anna Hezel's book!   Tinned fish is all of the rage!

Don't believe me?  Well, maybe you should watch Anna on CBS's Sunday Morning show from just this past week and break out some kippers . . .

Thank you for reading this newsletter.

KLUF

Now, for something completely different - like building our world around people, not cars.

In a first time play on KLUF, here are Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and the original soundtrack from the movie Soul.

You might just find it to be the perfect accompaniment to a quiet holiday morning.
